Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever
The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
