Micky van de Ven scored twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to ensure Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing the match official to check the score on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's side up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay 14th and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in role at both ends of pitch

Following a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on goal, the manager chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton missing finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had scored just a single goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

Everton: The team head to Sunderland in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
