PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
