Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from spring of that year.

Victory also means he has won twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
