Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
